A true Bouvier by all measures, he was
kind and sweet. In fact as a young dog, I was sure that
he would never be protective since he warmed up to
everyone he met.
Then one day while sitting in my van, a
man he had not met tapped on the passenger side window
and Uyrie nearly broke the glass bouncing off of it and
warning the person with great enthusiasm that his
behavior was not acceptable.
Good boy! I exclaimed, much to the dismay
of the man whose face had drained of any color. In my
eyes, he was doing his job. For which I was pleased, and
Uyrie was pleased. Uyrie did his job well, no matter
what was asked of him.
After he had completed his show career,
and was enjoying his new endeavors as a stud dog he went
to spend the next stage of his life with one of his
other owners, Jan and her husband Allen, where he
excelled at being their guardian and companion.
Uyrie came home to live out the final
stage of his life with me, and I am grateful to have had
the time with him. Uyrie was in every way a true Bouvier
gentleman and he will always hold a special place in my
heart.
I thank Heppe Boomsma of Grendarcohof
Kennel for allowing me the privilege of having this
wonderful dog in my life.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
There is a bridge
connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow
Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of
Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and
valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet
dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food
and water and warm spring weather. The old and the frail
animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made
whole again. They all play with each other.
There is only one thing missing.
They are not with their special person who loved them on
Earth. So each day they run and play until one day when
one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose
twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And
this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been
seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you
take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is
kissed again and again and again, and you look once more
into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the
Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

I'M NOT
THERE
- I stood by your
bed last night, I came to have a peep.
- I could see
that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you , so softly, as you brushed away a
tear, "It's me, I haven't
left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour
the tea, thinking of the
times I begged, and your hand reached down to me.
I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with
such care.
- I want to
re-assure you, that I am not
lying there.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
By the edge of a woods,
at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and
done.
"For here, between this world and the
next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross
over one day.
No more do they suffer,
in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with
gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the
grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt
while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over … together.

- COME HOME TO BE
WITH ME
- You looked so
very tired when you sank into the chair.
- I tried so hard
to let you know, that I was standing there.
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you
knew....
- In the
stillness of that evening, I was so very close to you.
It's possible for me, to be so near you every day.
- To say to you
with certainty, "I never went away."
And when the time is right for you, to cross the brief
divide,
- I'll rush
across to greet you and we'll walk then, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much
for you to see.
- Be patient,
live your journey out... then come home to be with me.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
STORY
Just this side of
heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal who has
been especially close to someone dies, that pet goes to
the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all
of our special friends so they can run and play
together. There is plenty of food and water and
sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
Animals who were ill
and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were
hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as
we remember them from days and times gone by.
The animals are happy
and content, except for one thing: they miss someone
very special to them; the person they left behind.
All of the animals run
and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to
break away from the group, flying over the green grass,
his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been
spotted, and when you and your special friend finally
meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be
parted again. Happy kisses rain upon your face; your
hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone
from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow
Bridge together…
